Why Panuka Exists

Across Sub-Saharan Africa, Agri-SMEs run viable businesses, yet they remain locked out of formal finance and structured markets. Six barriers hold them back, and each one makes the next worse:
Limited financial literacy
Hard to plan, cost, and present a business in funders' terms.
Absence of records
Activity is rarely documented — no evidence for a lender to assess.
Informality
Most enterprises operate outside any structured system.
No collateral or history
Little security and no track record on which trust can be built.
Invisibility to funders
Risk is hard to price, so financing defaults to caution.
Weak market linkages
No reliable buyers means no predictable cash flow.
The enterprises are viable — the evidence base is missing. A lender is not unwilling to lend; the lender simply cannot see the farmer. Independent research puts the region's annual Agri-SME financing gap at roughly USD 74 billion, with about two-thirds of demand unmet.
Choose your path — each leads to a dedicated space built for you.
